PBBM HONORS TROOPS INJURED IN WEST PHILIPPINE SEA ENCOUNTER
Pilippines seeks peaceful resolutions but will not submit to foreign powers following a June 17 incident where the China Coast Guard attacked a Philippine resupply mission at Ayungin Shoal.
Speaking to troops, Marcos emphasized the country’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and exercising its rights under international law, while remaining calm and professional amidst provocations.
The incident, which injured several Philippine Navy sailors, highlighted the ongoing tensions in the West Philippine Sea, where China continues to assert its claims despite a 2016 international ruling favoring the Philippines.
Marcos awarded the Order of Lapu-Lapu to 80 soldiers involved in the resupply mission, praising their bravery and restraint.
Amidst these tensions, concerns have also been raised over Chinese warships in Western Mindanao waters, prompting calls for tighter security to protect Filipino fishermen.
