President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed gratitude to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for granting clemency to 115 Filipino convicts during Ramadan.
The UAE Embassy in Manila informed the Philippine government about the royal pardon, which Marcos said would bring hope to the convicts’ families and highlight the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian values.
This act of compassion follows a similar gesture last year, when 143 Filipinos were pardoned during Eid al-Adha and 220 others during the UAE’s National Day.
Marcos emphasized the importance of strong bilateral ties between the two nations, especially as the UAE is home to nearly one million Filipinos.
The Presidential Communications Office noted that the pardon would bring joy to the families of the pardoned convicts and reflect the UAE’s respect for the Philippines.
