Pasig City was named one of 24 global winners of the Bloomberg Philanthropies 2025-2026 Mayors Challenge, receiving $1 million and operational support to scale up its floating parks and community space initiative along the Pasig River.
Mayor Vico Sotto said the project will tackle the city’s lack of public spaces while promoting participatory governance, with residents involved in designing, building, and managing the parks.
The city was selected from over 630 applicants worldwide and is the only Philippine city to receive the award, which spans 20 countries and benefits more than 35 million people.
The concept evolved from a unified parks master plan to floating parks after community consultations showed strong interest and support.
The grant will help Pasig refine planning processes, deepen stakeholder engagement, and make its development programs more sustainable.
