Families of drug war victims have filed complaints with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after facing a wave of online harassment following former President Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest and transfer to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL), representing the families, reported that the attacks—mainly on Facebook—include disinformation, misogynistic hate speech, and doctored content aimed at discrediting both the victims’ relatives and their legal counsel.
The harassment, they said, intensified after the ICC issued a warrant against Duterte, emboldening his supporters, including trolls and loyalists.
Human rights group Karapatan also condemned the sexist attacks, saying such tactics silence women seeking justice for their slain loved ones.
Duterte is now in ICC custody in The Hague for crimes against humanity, with human rights organizations estimating up to 30,000 deaths in his war on drugs.
