One person was killed and 47 others were injured in violent clashes between protesters and police in Recto, Manila, on Sunday, September 21, the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed.
An unidentified male victim died from stab wounds, while injuries among the wounded included head trauma, a gunshot wound, and severe arm wounds.
Two police officers sustained minor injuries and were later discharged from the hospital.
The DOH said 39 protesters were examined before being taken into custody, with no life-threatening conditions reported.
Authorities added that the unrest, which spread from Mendiola to Recto, resulted in the arrest of 216 individuals.
