NEDA CHIEF: PRESIDENT MARCOS PUSHES FOR HOLISTIC APPROACH TO ADDRESS TRAFFIC ISSUES

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr has called for a “comprehensive and holistic approach” to address the longstanding traffic issues in the Philippines, according to NEDA chief Arsenio Balisacan.

Following a lengthy discussion during Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting at Malacañang, Marcos emphasized the need for coordinated efforts from various government offices to tackle the problem.

He urged officials to submit recommendations on adapting their work environments to alleviate traffic congestion. Balisacan emphasized the importance of a unified strategy, highlighting the necessity of considering intermodal transport systems and infrastructure developments in conjunction with other factors such as bike lanes and residential layouts.

This directive comes amidst growing concerns over the worsening traffic situation in Metro Manila, with recent data ranking it as the most congested metro area globally.

Studies estimate the economic toll of this congestion to be at least P3.5 billion daily, prompting calls for urgent action from both government and private sectors.
