Mike Phillips has been officially classified as a local player by FIBA, making him eligible to play for Gilas Pilipinas in all international tournaments.
The 6-foot-8 former La Salle star, a two-time collegiate champion and UAAP Season 88 Finals MVP, adds size and energy to the national team’s frontcourt.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) thanked FIBA for quickly approving the request, noting Phillips’ prior participation in the 2023 Southeast Asian Games.
Phillips expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying he is ready to give his all for the Philippines.
He now joins a deep Gilas frontcourt featuring Carl Tamayo, June Mar Fajardo, AJ Edu, Quentin Millora-Brown, and Kai Sotto.
