Business and labor groups urged President Marcos to certify as urgent a bill granting the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) full powers to investigate corruption in government projects.
They called for public hearings, disclosure of documents, and the creation of a special Sandiganbayan division to expedite prosecution and recover stolen funds.
The groups also pushed for reforms in the budget process, including multi-sectoral participation, to restore public trust and ensure transparency.
Senator Francis Pangilinan similarly called for the passage of the Independent People’s Commission (IPC) bill before Christmas to strengthen investigations and coordination with the DOJ and Ombudsman.
He added that peaceful public protests could help pressure the courts to hold officials accountable, citing frustrations over past acquittals in corruption cases.
