President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. congratulated Alex Eala for her historic run at the 2025 Miami Open, calling her a source of pride and inspiration for Filipinos.
The 19-year-old wildcard entry stunned the tournament by defeating three Grand Slam champions, including world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, before falling in the semifinals to Jessica Pegula.
Marcos praised Eala’s determination and resilience, saying her performance exemplifies the fighting spirit of Filipino athletes.
The Presidential Communications Office also commended Eala, highlighting her success during Women’s Month as a symbol of Filipino excellence on the global stage.
With her Miami Open feat, Eala is set to earn $332,160 (₱19 million) in prize money, gain 390 WTA ranking points, and move closer to breaking into the Top 100.
