President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the establishment of a “tent city” to provide temporary shelter for victims of the recent 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu.
During his visit to Bogo City, one of the hardest-hit areas, Marcos inspected damaged structures and relief operations.
He emphasized that staying indoors, even in evacuation centers, is unsafe due to the quake’s damage and announced the use of large, quick-to-assemble tents similar to those used during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government has allocated ₱375 million for Cebu’s rehabilitation, with ₱150 million for local government support and ₱75 million earmarked specifically for Bogo City.
The earthquake has claimed at least 72 lives, injured hundreds, displaced many residents, and led to the declaration of a state of calamity in the province.
