President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. confirmed on Monday that he has selected a replacement for Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr., who is preparing to leave his post to run for senator.
While Marcos acknowledged the appointment, he chose not to disclose the name of the new secretary until Abalos formally filed his certificate of candidacy.
The President emphasized his respect for Abalos, stating he did not want to make him feel pushed out given his contributions to the role.
Marcos mentioned that there are only a few candidates being considered for the position, with two currently in the running.
Abalos is set to campaign under Marcos’ endorsed senatorial slate, “Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
