Luis Barredo from the Sta. Lucia East Bowling Association (Sletba) emerged victorious in the Open Masters division of the 8th GMTBC ICS/KwikPrint Open Championship finals held at the Sta. Lucia East Bowling Center in Cainta.
The 20-year-old displayed remarkable skill as he defeated seasoned players Jeff Chan and former national player Benshir Layoso.
In a thrilling showdown, Barredo defeated Chan in the stepladder stage with a score of 278-225 before securing victories over Layoso with pinfalls of 207 and 214, stopping Layoso’s twice-to-beat advantage.
Despite finishing third in the grueling 10-game elimination series, Barredo demonstrated courage and confidence, claiming his first major title.
With 39 players qualifying for the finals, the competition proved intense, with at least 10 players vying for the top three spots.
Barredo expressed his surprise at the win, emphasizing his focus on playing his best game. The finals marked the culmination of a week-long tournament covering five categories.
