The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) declared that charging higher fares based on a passenger’s size or weight is illegal and discriminatory.
The warning came after complaints surfaced about plus-size commuters being overcharged by public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators.
LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III emphasized that fares cover one person regardless of size, and overcharging violates both transport regulations and human rights.
Drivers or operators found guilty may face fines, suspension, or franchise revocation.
The LTFRB encourages the public to report any incidents of discrimination or overcharging to help enforce inclusive and respectful public transportation services.
