LANDSLIDES FORCE CLOSURE OF HISTORIC KENNON ROAD

Kennon Road, the historic and shortest route to Baguio City, remains closed to all vehicles following a series of landslides triggered by Typhoon Emong’s heavy rains.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has delayed clearing operations due to the high risk to personnel, especially near the newly completed rock shed in Camp 4, where structural damage was reported.

Cracks in retaining walls and erosion near the Bued River have added to the danger.

Benguet Rep. Eric Go Yap pledged to work with agencies for both immediate and long-term solutions, while urging motorists not to use the road.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong called for a third-party audit to assess if design or construction flaws contributed to the incident.
