Converge rookie Juan Gomez de Liano received his first call-up to the Gilas Pilipinas pool for the 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers, head coach Tim Cone announced on Nov. 16.
The 25-year-old guard earned the invitation after scoring 32 points with six rebounds and six assists against Cone’s Ginebra just two days prior, showcasing his scoring and playmaking abilities.
Cone revealed that Gomez de Liano had long been on the national team’s radar as a dynamic scorer and pick-and-roll threat, complementing current guards Scottie Thompson and Chris Newsome.
The rookie will join team practices starting Nov. 18, with a chance to play if visa issues arise or injuries occur.
Gomez de Liano expressed eagerness to impress Cone and secure a permanent spot on the team.
