Japan is providing a $4.7 million (PHP273 million) grant to support sustainable fishing and aquaculture in the Bangsamoro region.
The two-year project, benefiting around 4,000 small-scale fishers and aqua farmers, will be implemented by the FAO in partnership with BARMM’s agriculture ministry.
Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to Mindanao’s peace and development, highlighting the fisheries sector’s economic and environmental importance.
The project aims to address challenges such as high post-harvest losses, declining production, and underutilized fishing waters.
Using FAO’s “Blue Transformation” approach, will promote sustainable aquaculture, improve food security, and enhance fisherfolk capacities.
