INSTAGRAM SETS PG-13 DEFAULT FOR TEEN USERS

Meta is tightening content restrictions for teens on Instagram by defaulting all teenage accounts to PG-13 settings that can only be changed with parental approval.

The update, which Meta calls its most significant safety overhaul since launching teen accounts, will filter out posts containing sex, drugs, dangerous stunts, and other inappropriate material while limiting contact with adult-themed or harmful profiles.

Parents can also opt for a stricter “limited content” mode that blocks more posts and disables comments.

The move follows widespread criticism of Instagram’s impact on youth mental health after reports found the app still recommended sexual and self-harm-related content to teen users.

Meta said the new safeguards, including expanded AI filters and search restrictions, aim to create a safer digital space for young users.
