Senator Bong Go has called for strengthened disease surveillance following confirmed monkeypox (mpox) cases across various parts of the Philippines, including Metro Manila.
Mpox, a viral illness transmitted through close contact, has been detected in Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Baguio City, and Davao City.
On April 16, Davao City’s Health Office confirmed two cases of mpox, one of which resulted in death due to complications unrelated to the disease.
Go, chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, emphasized the importance of public cooperation in preventing the spread, urging people to follow safety measures such as handwashing, avoiding contact with symptomatic individuals, and seeking medical attention if feeling ill.
He also stressed the need for proactive health measures and long-term reforms to enhance the country’s ability to respond to public health threats.
