Sen. Imee Marcos summoned top government officials to a Senate inquiry on Thursday to clarify the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, and other key officials are expected to explain the role of Philippine agencies and the Interpol in Duterte’s arrest.
The former president was taken into custody on March 11 after the ICC issued a warrant for crimes against humanity linked to his war on drugs.
Marcos emphasized the need to confirm that Duterte’s rights were upheld and that due process was followed.
She warned that the arrest has “deeply divided the nation” and stressed the importance of protecting the country’s sovereignty and legal processes.
