Bagong Henerasyon party-list Rep. Robert Nazal and BH spokesperson Bernadette Herrera urged the House of Representatives to pass three pro-women bills—HB 2059 on enhanced benefits for solo parents, HB 1031 on mandatory child support, and HB 807 protecting victims of sexually explicit material—before Women’s Month ends.
Nazal emphasized that the bills address issues that disproportionately affect women and called on committee chairpersons to advance them to plenary debates.
Herrera highlighted that the measures aim to improve the implementation of existing laws, hold neglectful parents accountable, and safeguard women from online exploitation.
Meanwhile, lawyer Ferdinand Topacio faced backlash and calls for disbarment after making controversial on-air remarks about sexual fantasies involving women, including lawmakers and celebrities.
Progressive lawmakers and women’s groups condemned Topacio’s statements as misogynistic, with some considering legal action against him.
