Pork producers predict a decline in pork prices over the next four weeks following a recent surge in retail costs, with prices peaking at P460 per kilo.
The spike was partly driven by increased demand during the holiday season, including the Lunar New Year.
However, pork retail prices typically decrease in March due to the Holy Week season, with the current farmgate price remaining low at P220 to P225 per kilo.
The Pork Producers Federation is calling for a maximum suggested retail price on imported pork, although concerns were raised about the enforcement of penalties for non-compliance.
Additionally, the Department of Agriculture and economic managers are being urged to address the lack of significant impact from tariff cuts on pork and rice prices, with concerns also rising over the delayed food security emergency declaration.
