State media reported that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s helicopter was involved in an accident on Sunday amid poor weather conditions in East Azerbaijan province.
The incident occurred in the mountainous Dizmar area, making rescue efforts difficult due to heavy fog.
Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and local officials were also on board.
While two other helicopters in the convoy reached their destination safely, it remains challenging to establish communication with Raisi’s helicopter.
Raisi, who has faced numerous crises during his presidency, was visiting the province for a dam inauguration and emphasized Iran’s support for Palestinians in a speech earlier that day.
