PhilHealth is urging doctors to seek accreditation and expand access to mental health services under its new mental health package.
Vice President Walter Bacareza highlighted the shortage of mental health professionals in the Philippines and encouraged practitioners to train under the DOH’s Mental Health Gap Action Program (MHGAP).
While 3,000 doctors have been trained under MHGAP, only around 100 have secured PhilHealth accreditation so far.
The insurer has increased benefits, offering ₱9,000 for general consultations and ₱16,000 for specialty care through the New Outpatient Mental Health Package.
Participating facilities will display signage, and a full list of accredited providers will be available on the PhilHealth website.
