The Philippine national karate team has secured an impressive six gold medals at the 11th South East Asian Karate Federation Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.
Sebastian Neil “Bashy” Mañalac and Joan Denise Lumbao clinched the first two golds in their respective categories. Asian Games bronze medalist Sakura Alforte added to the tally with a victory in the women’s kata event.
Arianne Brito, Alwyn Batican, and Kirk Riverz Zamayla also claimed gold medals in their events. Jamie Lim earned the country’s lone silver medal. Karate Pilipinas lauded the team’s success, noting their safe and injury-free performance.
With six golds, one silver, and 16 bronze medals, the Philippines finished fourth overall in the championships, behind Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, the tournament’s champion.
