Acting Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia has announced his openness to run for mayor in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections, ending months of speculation about his political plans.
He made this statement during an oath-taking ceremony for officials of his local party, Kugi Uswag Sugbo (Kusug), but clarified that it was not an official declaration of candidacy.
Garcia indicated that he would consult with his family and party leaders before making a final decision, mentioning ongoing talks with other political parties in Cebu City.
Meanwhile, suspended Mayor Michael Rama confirmed he would not seek a national position and plans to focus on his reelection bid for mayor, despite his current suspension by the Ombudsman.
The filing period for candidacies is scheduled from October 1 to 8, heightening political activities in the city.
