GAMOT PROGRAM ABUSES UNDER SCRUTINY BY PHILHEALTH’S SPECIAL UNIT

PhilHealth has created a Special Anti-Fraud Unit to investigate and prosecute individuals or groups abusing its Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment (GAMOT) program.

Acting corporate affairs vice president Rey Baleña said the team will focus on protecting members’ funds, monitoring fraudulent registrations, and ensuring beneficiaries are legitimate through links with the National ID system.

The unit will also oversee other programs such as Yakap sa Kalusugan and file appropriate cases in court against violators.

PhilHealth assured that stricter verification at service points will be implemented to prevent abuse and urged members to report suspicious activities.

The GAMOT program provides members with access to 75 types of medicines worth up to ₱20,000 annually, with eight accredited facilities in Metro Manila and more pharmacies applying for accreditation.
