Former PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III has officially assumed office as the new general manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) after taking his oath at Malacañang on Dec. 26.
He was sworn in by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, following his appointment by President Marcos to replace outgoing GM Procopio Lipana.
Torre, who was relieved as PNP chief in August, previously oversaw high-profile operations including the arrests of Apollo Quiboloy and former president Rodrigo Duterte.
He is the first Philippine National Police Academy graduate to become PNP chief and has held various key positions throughout his police career.
As MMDA general manager, Torre will now oversee traffic management, flood control, and urban services across Metro Manila.
