FIRST JOINT SAIL OF PHILIPPINE AND JAPANESE WARSHIPS IN THE WEST PHILIPPINE SEA

Japan has conducted its first joint sail with the Philippine Navy under the recently signed Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA), marking a significant step in strengthening defense relations between the two nations.

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’s JS Sazanami and the Philippine Navy’s BRP Jose Rizal sailed together in the West Philippine Sea, participating in exercises that included communications, tactical maneuvers, and photography.

This collaboration, aimed at promoting regional stability and upholding a rules-based international order, follows similar joint activities with allies like the US, Australia, and France.

During the exercise, two Chinese naval vessels were observed nearby but did not disrupt the maneuvers.

Japan has condemned China’s aggressive actions in the South China Sea, supporting Philippine efforts in the region.
