Filipino tennis star Alexandra “Alex” Eala reached a career-best 49th in the latest WTA rankings, up from 53rd last week, following her semifinal finish at the ASB Classic in Auckland.
Eala earned 98 ranking points after falling to China’s Wang Xinyu, 7-5, 5-7, 4-6, in a tightly contested match.
Along the way, she defeated Donna Vekic, Petra Marcinko, and Magda Linette, and also reached the doubles semifinals with partner Iva Jovic.
The 20-year-old expressed gratitude to her fans for their support during the tournament and said she enjoyed competing in Auckland.
Eala is now set to play in the Kooyong Classic exhibition from January 13–15 and will make her main draw debut at the Australian Open on January 18.
