President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday swore in former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Benjamin Acorda Jr. as undersecretary of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC).
Acorda, who led the PNP from April 2023 to March 2024, succeeded retired police general Gilbert Cruz, who will be reassigned to another undisclosed government post.
A 1991 Philippine Military Academy graduate, Acorda previously served as PNP Director for Intelligence, Regional Director for Northern Mindanao, and the first chief of the Anti-Cybercrime Group.
The PAOCC, operating under the Office of the President, is tasked with investigating and prosecuting organized crime groups and corrupt officials.
The agency has been actively leading crackdowns against criminal syndicates and illegal Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs).
