Former PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva surrendered to the House of Representatives quad committee on Jan. 13 to serve detention for contempt after being accused of lying under oath.
The contempt charge stemmed from Villanueva’s testimony about the warrantless arrest and imprisonment of Jed Pilapil Sy, who claims she was wrongfully jailed for 20 years.
Villanueva denied knowledge of her detention, stating she was only “invited for an interview.”
Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, who chairs the committee, also criticized the Duterte administration’s war on drugs, calling it a “catastrophic failure.”
Testimonies revealed systemic corruption, fabricated drug hauls, and a controversial reward system during the anti-drug campaign from 2016 to 2022.
