Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Thursday urged a unified government framework to tackle global fuel and energy disruptions amid the ongoing Middle East conflict.
He welcomed President Marcos’ declaration of a state of national energy emergency and the adoption of the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) for affected sectors.
Escudero emphasized that agencies, schools, local government units, and businesses must act together to ensure coordinated energy conservation and stabilize the economy.
He praised the Energy Regulatory Commission’s suspension of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market operations to protect consumers from price volatility.
The senator also called on schools, LGUs, and the private sector to implement energy-saving measures, highlighting the importance of preparation to prevent disruptions during high-demand periods.
