Spokesperson for Task Force El Niño Joey Villarama, has issued a call for the public to exercise caution in water usage as the looming threat of El Niño may lead to shortages.
Villarama emphasized the need for conservation efforts, especially over the next three months to avoid potential worst-case scenarios, particularly in Metro Manila.
The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) has announced plans to reduce water allocations for concessionaires and irrigation, citing declining water levels at Angat Dam, a key water source for the capital region.
NWRB executive director Ricky Azardo confirmed the proposal to decrease supply from Angat Dam, attributing the situation to a lack of rainfall brought by El Niño conditions.
Despite hopes for El Niño’s weakening, Villarama warned that its effects are expected to persist for the next three months, underscoring the importance of continued conservation measures.
