Senator JV Ejercito co-sponsored Senate Bill No. 1901, the proposed Anti-Political Dynasty Act, calling it “historic, long overdue” and essential to breaking the concentration of power in a few families.
He argued that political dynasties contribute to persistent problems like poverty, hunger, and limited economic mobility, and cited data showing 71 of 82 provincial governments remain controlled by dynastic families.
Ejercito highlighted “obese” dynasties, where multiple relatives hold elective posts simultaneously, and noted that even the party-list system has been captured by these interests.
He emphasized that the bill provides a clear, absolute definition of political dynasties and applies the ban across the board, with no exemptions, citing the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act as proof of constitutionality.
Ejercito urged lawmakers to pass the measure immediately, calling it a democratic necessity and a priority of the current administration.
