Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena kicked off his indoor season by clinching the gold medal at the Memorial Josip Gasparac tournament in Croatia.
Obiena set a meet record by clearing 5.83 meters, securing the top spot.
He is set to compete in the ISTAF Indoor meet in Berlin, Germany, on February 23, followed by the World Indoor Championship in Glasgow, Scotland, on March 3.
Obiena is among the four Filipino athletes who qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, along with gymnasts Carlos Yulo and Aleah Finnegan, and boxer Eumir Marcial.
