Former President Rodrigo Duterte, currently detained at Villamor Air Base due to an ICC arrest warrant for alleged crimes against humanity, claimed that his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, would win if she ran for president.
Duterte made the statement in an Instagram live post by his daughter Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, blaming his arrest for boosting Sara’s chances.
Vice President Duterte faces multiple legal complaints, including incitement to sedition and grave threats, and is awaiting an impeachment trial in the Senate.
Duterte was arrested upon his arrival from Hong Kong and remains in police custody.
Authorities have confirmed he is set to be transported overseas, presumably to The Hague, where the ICC is headquartered.
