DEPED’S MATATAG CURRICULUM UNDER FIRE: TEACHERS CLAIM IT TURNS SCHOOLS INTO ‘ARENAS OF SUFFERING’

On August 15, teachers and education workers gathered at the Department of Education (DepEd) Central Office in Pasig City to protest the “burdensome” MATATAG curriculum.

Led by the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), the group criticized the curriculum for overwhelming teachers with excessive workloads and inadequate time for teaching.

They also condemned President Marcos’ Executive Order No. 64, which they argued provided only “insignificant” salary increases for government employees.

During the Olympic-themed protest, teachers symbolically lifted a MATATAG barbell while facing challenges labeled “excessive workload” and “low salaries.”

The group called for the curriculum to be scrapped and demanded fair compensation, including a P50,000 entry-level salary for teachers.
