The Department of Health (DOH) has reported a decline in dengue cases across the Philippines in the first half of January. Data from the DOH showed a 16% decrease in nationwide dengue cases from December 3 to 16 (8,629 cases) to December 17 to 31, 2023 (7,274 cases).
The number of cases further dropped to 5,572 from January 1 to 13, 2024. However, the DOH noted that these numbers may still change due to late consultations and reports.
While there was a decline in dengue cases nationwide, the Caraga region experienced an increase in cases during the same period.
The DOH reminded the public to follow the 5S strategy to fight against dengue, which includes searching and destroying mosquito breeding sites, using self-protection measures, seeking early consultation, saying yes to fogging where needed, and starting and sustaining hydration.
Dengue is a viral infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes and can cause symptoms such as high fever, headache, body aches, nausea, and rashes.
