Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima clarified that her remark about “SC” being viewed as “Sara’s Court” was aimed at Vice President Sara Duterte’s camp, criticizing their apparent over-reliance on the Supreme Court to avoid accountability.
She emphasized that her comment was not meant to insult the High Tribunal, which she respects and trusts to exercise judicial restraint.
Duterte recently filed a petition with the SC seeking to halt impeachment proceedings against her, prompting de Lima to accuse her camp of using the court to evade responsibility.
Fellow lawmakers also criticized Duterte’s move, calling it an attempt to hide behind the judiciary and questioning her lawyers’ understanding of House rules.
The House Committee on Justice continues to proceed with the impeachment hearings, with the next session scheduled for April 14.
