Despite the maximum suggested retail price (max SRP) of P360 per kilo for pork shoulder and P380 per kilo for pork belly, pork prices remain higher by P60 per kilo, according to Agriculture Assistant Secretary Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra.
During a joint market monitoring visit by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), it was found that pork belly was selling for P420 to P440 per kilo, and pork shoulder for P370 to P380, exceeding the prescribed SRPs.
Guevarra expressed concern, especially as the farmgate price of pork remains around P250 to P255.
She emphasized that the DA, DTI, and other agencies are working to ensure compliance with the SRPs and monitor market conditions.
The DA is also reviewing the entire pork value chain to identify cost drivers and explore options for direct meat supply to markets, aiming to address excessive mark-ups and promote fair pricing.
