DA IMPLEMENTS ROBUST MEASURES AND VACCINATION DRIVES TO COMBAT ANTHRAX RISK

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has announced that it will implement stringent measures to protect the livestock industry in the country from the threat of anthrax. This assurance comes in response to a reported outbreak of anthrax in Laos, with around 50 suspected cases in humans.

Agriculture Assistant Secretary Constante Dante Palabrica stated that the DA is fully prepared to tackle the situation. The Bureau of Animal Industry is actively involved in monitoring and providing free vaccinations to livestock animals.

Farmers have been advised to immediately report suspected cases to local veterinarians if they observe symptoms such as loss of appetite, fever, and the occurrence of vesicles in their animals.

The DA emphasizes the importance of reporting suspected cases and urges the public to avoid consuming suspected infected animals to prevent human transmission. Anthrax can be transmitted to humans through exposure to infected animals or consumption of contaminated products.

If an animal tests positive for anthrax, it will be isolated and condemned to prevent further spread of the disease.
