The consumption of chicken in the Philippines has increased due to the rising retail price of pork and special occasions like graduations and fiestas, according to United Broiler Raisers Association president Elias Jose Inciong.
Despite higher demand, chicken prices remain stable at P180 to P200 per kilo, compared to pork prices reaching up to P420 per kilo.
The Department of Agriculture reported that chicken prices range from P160 to P220 per kilo, while pork ranges from P305 to P420 per kilo.
Inciong noted that poultry raisers are still struggling to recover from losses experienced between October and April.
The production of chickens remains challenging due to high humidity, with temperatures feeling as high as 34 degrees Celsius.
