On Saturday, three Philippine soldiers were injured in a recent water cannon attack by the China Coast Guard on a Filipino supply vessel near a reef in the South China Sea, according to Manila’s national security adviser.
The incident occurred as the vessel was en route to deliver troops and supplies to a Philippine Navy ship stationed at the Second Thomas Shoal.
China’s claim over much of the South China Sea has led to tensions with neighboring countries, including the Philippines.
The United States, which has a defense pact with Manila, condemned the attack, emphasizing its commitment to the Philippines’ defense.
Despite the incident, the Philippines remains resolute in its efforts to resupply the garrison at Second Thomas Shoal.
