COMELEC WARNS CANDIDATES: REMOVE ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN MATERIALS OR FACE DISQUALIFICATION

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has warned candidates and party-list groups that failure to remove illegal campaign materials could lead to their disqualification, even if they win the elections.

Starting today, notices will be issued, and violators have three days to comply, or they risk disqualification, imprisonment, and a ban from holding public office.

The poll body launched “Oplan Baklas” to remove illegal posters and urged the public to report violators.

Meanwhile, Comelec also announced stricter monitoring of social media campaigns, including the use of artificial intelligence.

The first day of the national campaign period was reported to be peaceful, with election-related violence lower than in 2022.
