COMELEC INTENSIFIES CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN MATERIALS

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reminded senatorial candidates and party-list groups to remove illegal campaign materials before the official campaign period begins, warning that violators may face criminal charges.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia emphasized that the poll body will strictly enforce election laws, particularly against oversized posters and materials placed in public spaces, and will launch “Oplan Baklas” to take down unauthorized propaganda.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has implemented a 100-day security plan to prevent election-related violence, dismantle private armed groups, and maintain peace throughout the electoral process.

In a separate appeal, Bayan chairman Teddy Casiño urged the Comelec to ban the distribution of government aid programs, such as the Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP), during the campaign period, warning that they could be used for vote-buying.

He also called for stricter regulations on other social assistance programs to prevent political interference and ensure fair elections.
