The Commission on Audit (COA) has flagged the Department of Tourism (DOT) for questionable 2024 disbursements totaling P48.832 million due to missing or insufficient supporting documents.
Most of the flagged funds, amounting to P39.183 million, came from the DOT central office for alleged payments to foreign service providers for tourism events.
COA also cited regional offices for irregularities, including RO IX’s P8.826 million in salaries and unauthorized employee incentives, RO X’s incomplete furniture procurement worth P364,200, RO IV-B’s P55,962.52 in undocumented repairs, and RO XI’s P14,396.45 in travel reimbursements.
The audit noted violations of accounting and budgeting rules, improper budget documentation, and missing certifications.
COA stressed that these deficiencies cast doubt on the propriety and validity of the transactions.
