In a thrilling match at the 33rd Dubai International Basketball Championship, Strong Group, led by a vintage performance from Dwight Howard, secured a 104-95 victory over Lebanon’s Homenetmen, maintaining an undefeated 3-0 record in Group B.
Howard, the former NBA champion, contributed an impressive 32 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 blocks, leading the Philippine representatives. Kevin Quiambao added 19 points, Andray Blatche chipped in 18, while Jordan Heading orchestrated the team with 11 assists.
Despite a tough challenge from Homenetmen, Strong Group rallied in the fourth quarter, with Howard and Blatche pivotal in a 21-10 run, securing the win. Strong Group, tied with Libya’s Al Ahly Tri Sports Club at the top of Group B, will face Beirut Sports Club next.
Homenetmen, led by Zach Lofton’s 37 points, fell to 0-2 and faces a crucial match against the UAE national team.
The victory marks Strong Group’s closest win in the tournament so far, following earlier triumphs against the UAE national team and Syria’s Al Wahda.
