CHINESE FORCES BOARD PHILIPPINE RESUPPLY VESSEL; NAVY PERSONNEL INJURED

A recent attempt by the China Coast Guard to block a resupply mission to the BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal resulted in injuries to eight Filipinos, including one who lost a finger.

The incident involved a collision between a Chinese ship and a Philippine supply vessel, and the boarding and damage of Filipino boats by Chinese personnel.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Department of National Defense condemned China’s actions, with Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr. criticizing the “dangerous and reckless behavior.”

The U.S. and European Union, among other countries, denounced China’s actions, reaffirming their support for the Philippines and adherence to international maritime laws.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) downplayed China’s new maritime regulation, stating it will not impact fishing in the West Philippine Sea.
