The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that China has reinstalled floating barriers around Scarborough Shoal to prevent Filipino fishermen from accessing the area.
The China Coast Guard, supported by maritime militia vessels, installed the barriers on Monday while 26 Filipino fishing boats were present.
In response, the Philippine government has left the decision on how to handle the situation to the PCG and the Department of Defense.
Meanwhile, the US Navy P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft faced a radio challenge from the Chinese Air Force while on a mission over the area.
Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro condemned China’s claims in the South China Sea, calling them “the biggest fiction.”
