CANADA AIMS TO WRAP UP VFA NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE PHILIPPINES IN THE COMING MONTHS

Canadian Ambassador to the Philippines David Hartman expressed optimism about quickly concluding talks on a potential Status of Visiting Forces Agreement (SoVFA) with the Philippines.

In a press conference aboard the HMCS Montreal, Hartman revealed that both nations have exchanged drafts and are hopeful for a swift agreement.

He noted that the terms being negotiated are similar to those with other like-minded allies, which could expedite the process.

Hartman emphasized that the strong foundation established by recent agreements, such as the Philippines-Japan reciprocal access arrangement, supports this optimism.

He reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to deepening its relationship with the Philippines, citing both strategic and familial ties.
